A young woman receives a video call on her phone from her best friend. She sees her best friend bound and gagged sitting on a chair in her living room. An unknown person threatens to kill her friend and come after her next if she does not do exactly what she is told to do.

So begins a nightmare of violence and cruelty in a case which Hunter and his partner, Carlos Garcia will have to solve as quickly as possibly to stop the death toll rising and to avoid panic in the streets of Los Angeles. A serial killer is on the prowl and his next victim could be you.

Carter’s book is a real page-turner that will probably keep you hooked until the end. The violence is extreme and not for those of a faint disposition. I found myself wincing and speed-reading over the more unpleasant parts. The story is quite topical with its concerns over the dangers of social networking if not used carefully. Mixing that with a story drawn from true accounts from when Carter worked as a criminal psychologist gives us a fast-paced, easy read that will particularly appeal to those who like their crime fiction both grisly and thrilling.
