DI Geraldine Steel is a career woman - stellar track record in the force, single-minded and dedicated; and in Deadly Alibi she faces a hidden secret, one that makes her confront her past as well as her future.

DI Steel is pushed to her limits when she's pulled into a murder investigation, at the same time as she discovers she has a twin she never knew about [having been adopted as a baby].

What seems an open and shut case; becomes more convoluted when one murder becomes two, and despite her boss being happy they have the right man, Geraldine has her doubts. Her sister's messy life threatens to spill over into hers, and after a while she's battling to save her job, let alone catch a murderer.

This is the first Leigh Russell book I've read and I'm on the fence. Geraldine’s backstory is intriguing, and between her biological mum dying and discovering her junkie twin sister, she's got a lot going on in her life to keep you guessing. There’s something about Geraldine as a character I just couldn’t fully get into though. She ticks a lot of the right boxes for a leading lady, but comes across a little too aloof at times to make me well and truly commit to rooting for her. Overall though, a decently constructed police procedural, and a series I’m likely to dip back into further down the road.
