J. P. Carter is a pseudonym of an already established author and At Your Door is the second in his Anna Tate series set in London.

It opens with the discovery of a naked young woman on Barnes Common. The corpse has not been there long and Anna Tate quickly realises that this could well be Holly Blake, the missing daughter of Rebecca Blake, former Assistant Commissioner of Scotland Yard. It becomes a high-profile case.

Anna Tate knows what it is like to lose a daughter, as in her case, no trace of her two-year-old daughter, Chloe, has been found in the ten years that she has been missing. Chloe was kidnapped by her father Matthew Dobson who three years ago was found murdered. Anna’s own traumatic story is interwoven with hunt for Holly’s killer that involves a high-profile politician, until all threads come together.

At Your Door is a readable thriller, although slow-paced at times and its characters not always believable.
