A shadowy organisation calling itself Nemesis is systematically eliminating agents put in the field by the Department of Defence. It seems they are no longer content working to destabilise the US from within, by backing the alt-right and spreading fake news.

The sort of situation that calls for supreme fighting skills and a mean streak wider than the Grand Canyon to take the fight to the enemy, whoever they may be. Step forward Evan Ryder, a black-ops expert with reasons stemming from her troubled past for tackling this Nemesis threat.

Eric Van Lustbader, the writer who continued the adventures of Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels, has come up with a hero worthy of this new adversary. Evan Ryder is a protagonist driven to save her country, though deeply conflicted by the consequences of her actions.

Lustbader shows himself to be a narrative-master at detailing close combat and covert operations. He adds a deep understanding of the fears that dog our uneasy world, such as the rise of populism, fake news and the long shadow cast over Europe by the Nazis and their legacy.

All this combines to create a thrill ride of a novel that crosses borders and provides twists extreme enough to shame a switchback. It appears the author is setting the scene for an energetic and exciting new thriller series.
